The United States of America consists of 50 states, 5 territories and 1 district. States can make laws about things inside the state, but federal law is about things dealing with more than one state or dealing with other countries. In some areas, if the federal government makes laws that say different things from the state laws, people must follow the federal law. Each state has a constitution of its own, different from the federal Constitution.

The United States is the fourth biggest country in the world by land area. Only Russia, Canada and China are bigger than USA. The United States has a capitalist economy. The country has rich mineral resources, with many gold, coal and uranium deposits.The United States of America has people of many different race and ethnic backgrounds. Almost 80% of the people in the United States descend from European immigrants. Many people are descended from Germany, England, Scotland, Ireland, Africa, and Italy. Around 13% of the people in the United States are African-American. Asian-Americans make up only 5% of the population in America but make up a bigger portion in the west coast.

The United States does not have an official language, the United States Congress has considered officially designating English as such for many years; since it is the most used language in the country, and the language in which the United States Declaration of Independence and United States Constitution are written.

The Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program provides a year of professional enrichment in the United States for experienced professionals from designated countries throughout the world. Fellows are selected based on their potential for leadership and their commitment to public service in either the public or private sector. The fellowships are full grants covering all related expenses.

Institutions that fund international student scholarships for study in the USA 

Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarships

The Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program provides full scholarships to students from World Bank member countries to pursue development-related studies at selected Universities around the world. Students can choose to study in 8 participating USA Universities including Harvard University, John Hopkins University, University of Chicago, Cornell University and Columbia University.

AAUW International Fellowships

AAUW, also known as the American Association of University Women awards international fellowships for full-time study or research in the United States to women who are not US citizens or permanent residents. The scholarships are worth $18,000 for Masters, $20,000 for PhD and $30,000 for Postdoctoral students.

Aga Khan Foundation International Scholarship Programme

The Aga Khan Foundation provides a limited number of scholarships each year for postgraduate studies to outstanding students from selected developing countries who have no other means of financing their studies.  The studies can be undertaken anywhere in the world including the US. Scholarships are awarded on a 50% grant and 50% loan basis through a competitive application process once a year.
